Val
Badia is not only a natural and ski paradise, but is also ideal
for trekking and mountain biking. This area also offers a unique
experience in culture, history and traditions.
Did you know that the Ladin language is more ancient than Italian
and that the only Saint of South Tyrol was born in Badia? To get
more information the first port of call should probably be the museum “Ladino
Ciastel de Tor” in San Martino, a magnificent
13th century castle, followed by a visit to the native
house of “Santo Giuseppe Freinademetz” in
Oies,
“L’Ursus
Speleus” (cave with an exhibit of the prehistorical
bear ) in Conturines, Le
Viles (typical mountain huts in Val Badia ) and the
small Santa Barbara church in La Valle are all worth a visit.
Alta Badia also offers fascinating contemporary cultural events
such as “Un libro un rifugio” (a book a refuge- each
book being a refuge for the mind). Famous writers and figures such
as Beppe Severgnini, Massimo Cacciari, Corrado Augias, Sergio Romano
and many others present their books during August afternoons (free
entrance).
The Badiamusic Festival (www.badiamusica.it)
offers high level classical music concerts.
